Over the past few years some new injectable medications have been approved for type 2 Diabetes.
In June of 2021, the FDA approved Semaglutide for weight loss.
It tends to work on the brain to decrease appetite and cravings, on the stomach to slow gastric emptying (eat less and stay satisfied longer), and on the whole body to improve insulin resistance (which may help prevent weight regain).
Early studies show very good weight loss. On average, a weight loss of about 15% of body weight for Semaglutide.
The medication needs to be started at a low dose and slowly increased each month depending on patient tolerance and weight loss.
The medication can potentially have some side effects (about 5% of patients may need to stop the medication due to intolerance). Potential side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, constipation, indigestion or abdominal pain, and burping. Very rarely serious side effects could occur – allergic reactions, pancreatitis, or gallbladder disease.
Your initial consultation with Dr. Clark will be $150.00. The monthly fees for medication start at $269.00 for the initial dose of medication. Sign up at the left to get started!
