Dealing With Stress

  • Get Active

Physical activity is one of the most important things you can do to keep stress away by clearing your head and lifting your spirits.  It increases your endorphin levels, the “feel-good” chemicals in your body that leave you with a natural happy feeling.  Walk, play tennis, swim, bike……….find something you enjoy that will get you moving!

  • Eat Regularly

Don’t forget to eat breakfast.  You need that energy to tackle the day and rev up your metabolism.  Make sure that you eat regular meals and fuel up with healthy foods.  For that extra boost of energy grab a protein shake, some string cheese, or a protein bar.   Click here to find out more about Dietary Counseling at CMH.

  • Laugh

Lots of laughing can make you feel good, so watch a funny movie, some cartoons or read a joke book.  Some say that laughter is the best medicine………….so lighten up and have some fun.  Have fun with friends.  Friends can often help you to work through your problems and let you see the brighter side.

  • Don’t  Go It Alone

Instead of keeping your feelings bottled up inside, talk to a friend, family member or someone in your religious community.  Someone you trust or respect can help you figure things out.   If you’d like to learn more about our Patient Support, click here.

  • Take time To Relax

Stress can really make us feel really tight, so it is important to find time to relax by doing such things as daydreaming, reading or listening to music.  Take some relaxing breaths.

  • Get Enough Sleep

Getting the right amount of sleep is especially important if you are under stress.  When you’re tired a problem can appear to be much bigger than it really is.

  • Keep  A Diary

Writing things down can get them off your chest.  So, write down your feelings and events that occur.

  • Plan

Organizing your life can prevent you from becoming overwhelmed and forgetful

  • Learn Ways to Deal with Anger

It is important to deal with anger in a healthy way so that you don’t increase your stress level.  Try to calm down before doing or saying anything.  Tell the person you’re upset with how you feel.  Try to think of some solutions and put them into action.
